Let us be straight about this one: Rome deserves three days, and you have one. If that’s the situation, a private vehicle is the only way it works. You leave before dawn, you arrive around half past nine, and instead of losing an hour between each site on public transport, the driver moves you across the city in ten minutes.
The alternative, train from Sorrento with the Circumvesuviana connection at Naples, costs less and takes longer at both ends, and leaves you standing in the Roman heat with no base. If the day matters, this is the version that works.
Highlights
- The Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine, from the outside or in
- St Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums
- The Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona on foot
- A driver who moves you between them, not a metro map

Good to know
- It’s a fourteen hour day with seven hours in the vehicle. With small children or anyone with limited mobility, consider the overnight version instead: we can quote Rome across two days with a hotel night.
- Book the Vatican Museums before you book us. Without a timed ticket, the queue is two hours in season and the day collapses.
- The Colosseum also needs a timed slot. Same principle.
- Rome is dead in mid August, in a way that’s either wonderful or frustrating, depending on what you wanted to eat.
- Long day, long drive. Motorway rest stops are scheduled. If someone needs to stop more often, say so at the start: the driver will plan it in rather than improvise.
- Rome’s ZTL is strict and enforced by camera: larger vehicles have restricted access to the historic centre and set drop off points. We know them, and we tell you where you’ll be walking from.
Going one way instead?
This same day works as a transfer with sightseeing on the way: Sorrento to Rome, the day in Rome, then your hotel or Fiumicino. Same driver, same hours, one journey instead of two.
Frequently asked questions
For one or two people, yes, on the ticket price. For three or more the difference narrows fast, and you lose the door to door part at both ends plus a car in Rome all day.
Yes, that’s the one way version with sightseeing en route. Very common with cruise passengers and with people flying out of Fiumicino the next morning.
No. He drives, he waits, he knows where to drop you and where to collect you. Guiding inside sites requires a licence, and we book you a real guide if you want one.
Between eight thirty and nine in the evening, traffic permitting.
